Need a bit of free legal advice?

1 11 2009

Legalities….whew that’s a mouth full. I’m really aware that we all want to protect ourselves and yet it feels like a burden to have to buy legal services, before you know if you need to spend the money. Yes I just described insurance, for that is what legal advice is. And as you should know, I’m not a lawyer, and I’m a big proponent of learning to do as much as you can on your own while you build your art licensing business.

When speaking at the Self-Employment in the Arts Conference in Illinois, I met Elizabeth Russell, an Arts Attorney. I felt she really knows how to explain legal language and nuances so that they are understandable to artists. The goal is to help you understand the terms so that you can quickly review a contact and I’m forever  thinking about working as smart and as efficiently as possible while keeping costs down – and yes –  absolutely getting the right legal advice for your needs.
I have asked Elizabeth to join me for our first THREE FOR FREE programs, where we will take a complex topic and break it down into three online classes. These are interviews – three actual classes. I’ll be there with Elizabeth to keep it relevant to art licensing and relate the legal aspects to the business decisions you as an artist must make every day. All three classes you can take for FREE on November 4th, 11th and 18th, as we tackle Copyrights, Trademarks and Contract Language, respectively.

So sign up for one or all three by sending an email to with THREE FOR FREE in the subject line. It’s only free to those attending live, so grab your space and mark your calendars. You’ll save a bundle and enjoy these dynamic classes.

Sincerely, J’net
